Mandate
Promote, support, coordinate, and regulate intellectual property, technology acquisition, diffusion, and commercialisation; and promote public understanding of science, engineering, mathematics and technology.
Terms of Reference
- Promote public private-partnership in technology transfer and acquisition;
- Institutionalize national and regional awards to promote technological innovations;
- Develop guidelines for technology transfer and commercialization;
- Train entrepreneurs/business community in technology negotiation and licensing agreements;
- Create mechanisms for tracking technology developments worldwide;
- Identify and assess technologies and alert stakeholders of potential opportunities and threats thereby recommending strategic interventions and options;
- Stimulate and carry out awareness promotion programmes on intellectual property (IP) and technology innovation among researchers, inventors and the business community;
- Lobby for curriculum review to incorporate technological development and application;
- Establish technology parks and incubation centres;
- Institutionalize and strengthen technology transfer offices in Universities and R&D institutions to facilitate patenting; and
- Develop programmes for strengthening capacity in technology transfer;
- Source funding for technology transfer and science awards.
