The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation launched its first ever diaspora portal at the Bingu International Convention Center (BICC) on 18th February, 2019. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr Emmanuel Fabiano, MP presided over the function on behalf of His Excellency the President, Prof Arthur Peter Mutharika. During the event, two policy documents, the Malawi foreign policy and the Malawi Diaspora engagement policy were also launched.
The Malawi Diaspora portal was developed with technical support from the National Commission for Science and Technology (NCST) and the Reserve Bank of Malawi.
Hosted by NCST, the portal intends to provide an interactive platform for continuous engagement and a seamless link between diaspora and the homeland stakeholders at a click / push of a button.
In his remark’s the Hon. Minister indicated that the Malawi Government is committed to provide its services to the diaspora through the portal as such it has appointed Diaspora Desk Officers in all Ministries ,Departments and Agencies (MDA’s), who will be a human face in pushing the country’s development agenda. Furthermore, the diaspora play significant roles in almost every sector of the society as they endeavor to make a positive contribution towards achieving the Malawi’s socio-economic development.
The Hon Minister therefore urged Malawians to render their support in the implementation as well as the periodical reviews of the portal for the advancement of the country’s development.
