Networks Established

WISTNET has established networks with various institutions with similar objectives with the aim of sharing information and collaborating in various activities through hosting and attending science and technology meetings, conferences and online networking.

So far:

  1. WISTNET members attended and presented at a meeting in Iran on Empowerment of Women through Science and Technology Interventions in December 2008. The proceedings are published  making WISTNET more visible
  2. Attending national and international meetings on women, science and technology. In this regard the Chairperson and some board members attended with support from the NCST, the First SADC Meeting on Women in Science & Technology, April 2010, Durban.
  3. In March 2010 WISTNET Chair attended a meeting on Creation of UNESCO Chair on Women Science and Technology in Southern Africa in Johannesburg

 

Establishment and Maintenance of a Database on Women Scientists and Technologists

  1. Registration of members and is an ongoing process.
  2. Introduction of WISTNET student wings in the University of Malawi constituent colleges e.g. Over 40 female science students have registered at CHANCO.

Role modeling and mentoring program conducted in schools

Women scientists and technologists have on annual basis, actively shared their success stories and act as champions and role models for girls in schools. Role modelling by some WISTNET members have been conducted in Zomba, Blantyre, Lilongwe, Mzuzu, Mangochi, Mchinji, Machinga, Ntcheu, Dedza, Mwanza, Mzimba, among other places in the country.
