Timothy Gondwe Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources male Unknown Professor Animal Agriculture (Animal Breeding, Production Systems, Small stock production) +265888386847 tgondwe@luanar.ac.mw PhD in Agriculture (Animal Breeding and Husbandry) Timothy Gondwe has over 20 years’ experience in training, research, outreach and consultancy in animal agriculture, especially in poultry, goats and dairy cattle. These include developing breeding strategies, training of both farmers, front line staff, extension workers and policy makers, policy and strategy development. He has done some consultancies including analyses of optimal livestock species, breeds and systems models to support rural communities. He has been key in developing business plans for all livestock sectors to operate at breakeven. Currently he is key to empower urban rural poultry to produce them cost effectively, especially through training them to produce own feeds, and reduce costs by between 30 – 40 %. Key Areas of Competence: 1) Livestock breeding within the context of production systems and genetic resource conservation; 2) Livestock Production Systems; 3) non-ruminant feed formulations and training; 4) Research Methods and Data Analyses using SAS, Genstat, SPSS; 5) Conservation and Development of Animal Genetic Resources; 6) Monitoring and Evaluation of food security projects (Training of Indicators, data collection and analyses) Key Livestock Species: Family and commercial poultry (though I work with others especially goats, pigs and dairy cattle). Current area of research interest: to develop locally adaptable breeds or composites, targeting village chickens and goats, and enhancing animal recording to guide livestock management and breeding. The thrust is to improve livestock genetically while conserving the livestock genetic resources. Donald Siyeni Department of Agricultural Research Servces (DARS) male Unknown Principle Agricultural Research Scientist Legume cropping systems agronomy +265999499760/+61426799760 donglad2@yahoo.co.uk Master of Science in Agronomy (PhD student; Agronomy) Over 12 years of experience in reviewing, developing, conducting scientifically but demand driven research on legumes (Soybean, Groundnuts, Beans, Pigeon pea, Chickpea, Sunflower, Cowpeas) in Malawi based on farmers’ emerging constraints on grain. I have established links with local, regional and international partners with common interests of addressing farmers’ problems in cereal-legume based cropping systems. Through these links, we have been assessing available agronomic technologies currently practiced by farmers and determining their suitability and applicability. Vested with experience to liase with other scientists such as breeders, entomologists, pathologists and other agronomists to identify appropriate researchable areas. Proven skills of scientific writing is also another big asset in this journey. Currently doing Doctor of Philosophy in Agronomy at University of Adelaide in South Australia with a focus on research addressing biophysical limitations in grain legumes.  A. Ngwira, D. My initial field experience using FDGs and IDIs was in 2003 when I worked as a research assistant at the GTZ-Combating GBV-Project. After joining the academia in 2004, I have trained and supervised student research projects at undergrad level at Mzuzu University, Catholic University and postgrad research projects at MUST. Between 2018 and 2021, I worked on my PhD research on gynae-patient communication of taboo topics in Malawi where I used Interactional Sociolinguistics and Situates Discourse Analysis methodologies.
