Mandate
Promote, support, coordinate, and regulate research and development in the fields of energy, mining, engineering, industry, manufacturing, transport, housing, and other physical infrastructure.

 Terms of Reference

1. Initiate and develop research agenda for Engineering, Industrial, Energy and related areas and set priorities for implementation;
2. Identify critical areas of national economic importance in Engineering, Industrial and Energy sub sectors towards which research and development efforts should be directed.
3. Develop guidelines and procedures for conducting research in the Engineering, Industrial, Energy and related areas;
4. Solicit funding for research activities from both local and international sources for Engineering, Industrial, Energy and related areas;
5. Identify projects that can be undertaken to develop local expertise in industrial production with a view to increasing Malawi’s share of the world manufacturing value-added;
6. Organise scientific fora on research in Engineering, Industrial, Energy and related areas;
7. Promote partnerships between the private sector/ business community/ government, other stakeholders and researchers/ research institutions for implementation of research projects;
8. Review research project proposals in the Engineering, Industrial and Energy sub sectors and make funding recommendations to the commission;
9. Assist in the development of curricula to promote research in Engineering, Industrial and Energy;
10. Develop programmes for strengthening research capacity in Engineering, Industrial and Energy;
11. Develop programmes to promote and strengthen design capabilities.
