Energy, Design, Industry and Engineering
The Engineering, Design, Industry and Energy (EDIE) Section is under the Directorate of Research and Technology Transfer. The Section is headed by the Chief Research Services Officer. The Section is responsible for the promotion, support, coordination, and regulation of research, development and innovation in the fields of energy, mining, engineering, processing, manufacturing, transport, housing, physical infrastructure and other related areas.
Functions

• Initiate and develop research agenda for Engineering, Industrial, Energy and related areas and set priorities for implementation;

• Identify critical areas of national economic importance in Engineering, Industrial and Energy sub sectors towards which research and development efforts should be directed;

• Develop guidelines and procedures for conducting research in the Engineering, Industrial, Energy and related areas;

• Identify projects that can be undertaken to develop local expertise in industrial production to increase Malawi’s share value-added product on the global market;

• Organise scientific fora on research in Engineering, Industrial, Energy and related areas;

• Promote partnerships/ linkages between/ amongst the private sector/ business community/ government, other stakeholders and researchers/ research institutions for implementation of research projects locally and internationally;

• Review research project proposals in the Engineering, Industrial and Energy sub sectors and make funding recommendations to the commission;

• Assist in the development and review of curricula at all levels to promote research in Engineering, Industrial and Energy;

• Develop programmes for strengthening research capacity in Engineering, Industrial and Energy; and

• Registration of all research carried out in Malawi in Energy, Industrial and Engineering Sciences.
